A57 Anston crossroads

The A57 roads from Lincoln to Liverpool, and goes through the centre of Sheffield and Manchester on the way. It can be very busy as it also connects the A1 with the M1, as well as being a major commuter route. This photo is looking west towards Sheffield, 12 miles distant. The A57 is picked up 2 miles further east on the Todwick pages.
The road to the left leads to the old South Anston village and used to be the A57.

This is the road to the right, which leads to North Anston\Dinnington (B6006).

A57 crossroads snowed in early Dec 010

In December 2010 there was a heavy 70cm snowfall and a week of temps as low as -20C. This was the result. 200 trucks were stranded for 3 days with many drivers having to sleep in the village or church hall and be fed by the locals. The Peak District Mountain Rescue were called in, among others, and a major incident was declared bythe emergency services..
