David Page of Thurcroft sent me this fascinating photograph of the Thurcroft colliery fire-fighting team in about 1957. Of especial interest is that most of the fireman are named, which is invaluable to genealogists and coal mining historians.

In Jan 2010 Annette Wade of Thurcroft sent me this piece of (rather sad) infomation: On your Pit photo of the Fire Fighting team you have a man on named Jim Lovely, he was married to my Granddad’s sister Violet, Jim came from a well known farming family who lived in Brampton, my Granddad was born in Sheffield, but later lived in Ulley, his Father committed suicide in Ulley Reservoir in 1926 due to health worries after an accident down Thurcroft pit.
